Messing about on the river
By 2022 we were quite proficient with paddling the kayaks, enjoying motoring in ‘Cachalette’ with the quiet outboard and her maintenance was much easier now she’s kept permanently at Robertsons Boatyard.
In 2022, Bev checked out the tides and weather to plan the ’round trip’ down to Bawdsey and back by kayak. Tides were just right on Friday, 19 August to try this – 0800 from Robertsons to take the tide down to the mouth of the Deben in time for low water at 1100. Coffee at the cafe then back with the tide. A bit of wind in both directions, quite strong at times, but a really good trip. We both needed a shower and a rest, but very pleased to have done it! 18.2 miles done in 5 hours 20 minutes paddling time: top speed 5.8 mph (but we had the tide in both directions!)
